Tutorials Info
This is a collection of tutorials/lessons teaching different Adobe Flash techniques and general knowledge (as well as other things). Depending on the simplicity of the tutorial, I may or may not go over the basics of what I'm doing (although I usually do). Sometimes I will just record myself working and post it. For more behind the scenes stuff, check out the photo album.
I (Stevie Critoph) am a freelance Flash developer and web designer. I've been using Flash since 2002, and have a good understanding of Flash design and programming. I hope to show with these tutorials and videos some of the techniques I've developed over time, and other general Flash techniques that might not be covered well in other tutorials. You can also check out my animation and graphic design portfolios if you want to gauge my skill level, or check out my finished cartoons, games and art.
If you want to request a tutorial, email me. You can also subscribe to my YouTube channel or mailing list.

Here's a video of me drawing (at 16x speed) the fourth frame of Coozy McMillan #12 - Shadows of Darkness. The bulk of the work was drawing Coozy sitting there pointing at a tube, but the background was also pretty tedious because it's mostly plain and I tried to make it more interesting.

Here's a video of me animating (at 16x speed) the bully shielding his face while his hair blows in the wind, for the post-boss cutscene in level 3 of Straight Bullyism. I did a few strands of hair, duplicated them, moved and scaled them, and then put it all on one layer. I think it turned out pretty well, and it seems like it took more work than it did.

Dissolving and Exploding on Nov 26, 2011

Here's a video of me animating the final boss in Straight Bullyism dissolving and exploding. I worked on this on and off for 10 days, which is shown at 16x speed. The most challenging part of the animation process was the first 10 or so frames of the body dissolving, because each frame took so long to draw and I had to keep track of so many pieces of flesh falling. The rest of the animation work was quite easy but really repetitive; the body/flesh underneath dissolving, and blood dripping underneath that. It turned out almost exactly as I hoped, so I'm really happy with it. Next time I'll go for a more interesting motion instead of standing in one spot. Also, I would like to do a more FBF-heavy explosion but it’s not entirely necessary for this because it takes attention away from the dissolving.
